The Tourist

Most of you have probably seen "The Tourist" and think it is a bad movie. However, I think it is one of the best movies for dreamers like me who love fashion, traveling and a juicy love story (although some question that as well). I re-watched it again just to get re-inspired and here are my favorite shots from the movie.

It took weeks to make this dress of layered silk tulle and satin.
Vintage 1950s Charles James gray dress - the only dress that was not made for the movie.

This is the first look in the movie and it tells all about the heroine.

White, Red and Purple

This past weekend was the wedding celebration of one of my friends - Nicole. Weddings give me the chance to have fun, be emotional and be fashionable all at the same time. This wedding was not an exception.

Beautiful Liar

This is an outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago with the girls on the town. We went to dance the night away at a local club called Tongue and Groove and we had a blast. They were playing hit after hit and we did not sit down for at least two hours. I don't know about you, but I play loud dance music at home all the time and somehow while I do that I have a vivid image and feeling that I can dance like Beyonce or Shakira in Beautiful Liar. Unfortunately, I have been told that this is not the case. But a girl can dream, right?

Weekend Outfit

This past weekend we celebrated Nadia's birthday. For the occasion, I wore this beautiful "embellished t-shirt dress", although  I refuse to use the word t-shirt. It somehow makes it harder to justify spending money on anything that includes t-shirt in the name. With that said, I love it because it is the perfect day to evening dress. Also, I can already picture it with some color tights for the cooler weather. My hubby loves it too - just look at his grinning face on the last pic. Right, honey?

Remembering 9/11

I don't have many memories of where I have been on a particular date and time but it seems like I will never forget where I was when I saw the video of the first plane crashing in the tower. I just arrived to my college job when I heard the TV was on. It was not typical so it got my attention. Watching the report felt surreal - my initial instinct was to start crying for all the people that were in those buildings and planes. My second instinct was to call my parents in Bulgaria but all the phones were down. Not being able to reach anyone made the feeling so much more intense. I can't imagine what the families of those who lost someone went and are going through but my prayers are with them.

Living in the states for more than ten years, I have to say it has been easy for me to feel like a part of this great nation. I don't know of many cultures that are so welcoming of outsiders and at the same time so united ahead of challenges. God Bless America!

Mix and Match

Decided to do something different with my outfit photos - a little collage of angles and views. I hope you like it. I am glad the color "red" is in vogue this season because I could pull an old red evening dress out (see here) and dress it down to a day outfit! The top is made of jersey material and looks great both buttoned up or more relaxed by the end of the day. Can't wait to pair it with a nice pair of fall shorts!
Has fall arrived at your doorsteps? Or are you still in a summer climate?

Miss you

Accessorizing a silk scarf this way has turned into a habit for me. It was Sydney from The Daybook and then Kendy from Kendy Everyday who introduced me to it. Thank you very much, ladies. It is a great way to make an outfit more fun by adding color and texture. At the same time, it makes an outfit more conservative if more coverage is needed for the work place:)

Jeffrey Fashion Cares Part 2: The Show

Hello my dear followers!

I am so sorry for the short absence - it seems like it is a busy season for everyone. As promised, here are the pictures from the "Jeffrey Fashion Cares" fashion benefit with honor guest Jason Wu. It is amazing that it was only 5 years ago when he had his first ready-to-wear collection. Jason Wu was also the designer of the white ballgown worn by Michelle Obama to the presidential inauguration.

"Sophisticated Elegance" are two words that he uses to describe his style and I could not agree more. However, his Fall'11 collections was specifically inspired by photographer Robert Polidori and his photo book on the 25 year long  restoration of Versailles. Wu wanted to represent both the austere background and opulent decor of Versailles during that time. The austere shape and limited colors of his creations were contrasted against the opulence of Swarovski crystals, burned out features and elaborated lace. Here are some of my favorite pieces.
